Italian Food Week around the world in Asmara

Settimana della cucina italiana nel mondo 2025

The tenth edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the third to take place in Eritrea, was held in Asmara from 17 to 21 November, organized by the Embassy in collaboration with the ICE Headquarters in Nairobi, responsible for Eritrea.

For the occasion, Professors Silvio Pellegrino and Mauro Prato of the Institute “Giovanni Giolitti” in Mondovì (in the province of Cuneo) and three students from the same institute (Camilla Castiglia, Cristina Gusaric, and Raffaele Lanza) were invited from this Embassy.

During the Week, the professors, assisted by Italian students, held a twenty-hour Italian cooking course at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers for 12 Eritrean participants selected by the local Ministry of Tourism. The 18 recipes, some of them vegetarian, were made exclusively on the basis of products available on site.

At the end of the course, the twelve Eritrean participants received a certificate of participation from Ambassador Di Riso. Dawit Tekie, Director of the Hotellerie of the local Ministry of Tourism, was present at the delivery.

At the end of the week, two tasting dinners were organized, one in Residenza d’Italia and one at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers.
